STORY OF CRUX.

We are CRUX Productions, a young film collective that uses storytelling to inspire social and environmental change.

Completely student led, we are a non-profit dedicated to capturing the stories that matter the most. In this age of overflowing media, we collaborate with NGOs to meaningfully communicate their purpose, work, and impact.

OUR PROJECTS

We create more than films.

We create movements around underrepresented stories across the world. Examples range from an art exhibition around a film on artists from a disreputable neighborhood in San Francisco to a political debate around a film on the real-life effects of climate change at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Awareness is overrated. Using stories to bring people and organizations together, we aim to instigate real change around crucial issues.

Tenderloin Tapestry

Documentary film that highlights small artists from the infamous Tenderloin neighborhood in San Francisco, combating prejudices faced by the community.

The film premiered at a pop-up art exhibition that featured said artists, bridging their works and stories with the broader San Francisco community. The film has been shown at film festivals across the world.

Down to Earth

A documentary film that captures real-life stories on the effects of climate change from across the world.

The finished film has been featured at film festivals and screenings around the world. It has received honorary mentions in competitions and been shown as part of an event at the European Parliament in Brussels.

What if the European Union disappeared?

Through interviews with MEPs and young Europeans, the documentary explores the invisible threads the European Union weaves into our lives, from bottle caps and phone chargers to education, climate action, and peace.

The filming concluded in June 2025, and the post-production is scheduled to finish by the end of August.

Shadows of Apartheid

This documentary reveals how apartheid in South Africa did not end in the 90s, but rather transformed into more hidden systemic inequalities that continue to shape daily life.

Through personal and emotional stories, the project confronts the legacy of apartheid in its modern form as well as explores spaces of resilience and change.

Filming concluded in July '25, and post-production will be finished in early Fall.

Rediscovery of oceans and self

Through intergenerational stories, from elders shaped by the devastation of World War II to young Okinawans rediscovering their marine heritage, this project explores how a lost connection to nature intertwines with the loss of cultural identity.

The project is currently in pre-production, with filming taking place early fall and premiere planned for December 2025. With the premiere, we will organize a Youth Ocean Summit to empower marine conservation efforts in Japan and beyond.

Young voices of peace

Dedicated to celebrating dialogue across borders and cultures, this project focuses on how young people in Pakistan and India view the conflict between their countries.

The project is currently in pre-production, with filming planned for December '25 in Pakistan and February '26 in India.

Not done yet

A feature-length production that features the most incredible youth-led climate movements from across the world, collaborating with the international organization Plant for the Planet.

In July 2025, we filmed in The Hague in the Netherlands, when the International Court of Justice (ICJ) published their Advisory Opinion on climate change - the result of an international, student-led movement.

Currently, we are in the process of filming and building partnerships.
